September 9, 2025 • Tragedy Response

South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper Wayne H. LaBounty is recovering from serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle on September 9, 2025, while performing a traffic stop in Lexington County. Master Trooper LaBounty, a 40-year law enforcement veteran, was airlifted to Prisma Health in serious condition where he remains in serious, but stable condition.

“Master Trooper LaBounty is one of those guys who would give his shirt off his back if you are in need. He is tender-hearted, a true public servant for his community, but he’s also tough as nails. I think that’s evident in how he’s fighting back despite the very serious injuries he sustained. We are praying hard for our trooper who has a long recovery ahead of him,” said SCHP Colonel Christopher Williamson.

Master Trooper LaBounty, 62, has served most of his Highway Patrol career in Troop 1. He currently serves in Lexington County, where he’s a resident.
