That future is within our reach. In fact, it already exists in pockets across our country. In those areas, police and community members have leaned into one another, dedicated the time to build trust and open communication, and found ways to work together to tackle some of their greatest challenges.
This is the work of community policing. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel to create the future we want to see. We need to reinvest in what we already know works.
Community policing is a term that has been around for decades. Yet, far too often, it is misunderstood by both police and the community. Community policing is defined as, “a culture that enhances trust and legitimacy through collaborative, sustainable relationships with the police and the public.” When embraced and implemented with quality, a culture of community policing can enable partnerships that address the root causes of crime and lead to measurable improvements in public safety outcomes.
However, implementing community policing can be a challenge for police and community members alike. Issues related to capacity, resources, trust, time, resistance, and more can lead to community policing approaches that fall short.
We believe that by spreading a culture of community policing across our country, we can make significant progress in public safety outcomes and create healing in the process.
To accomplish our vision, we walk alongside our partners, helping them do what they were called to do in the first place: help others. We seek to understand what the challenges and opportunities are, and work together to create a plan that is tailored to each community’s unique needs.
Through a commitment to data and evidence-based practices, coupled with our research-based strategies for quality implementation, dedication to consistency and service, and belief in the power of people to drive change, we help police and communities work together as one team to achieve results. We are proud to work with partners who, like us, believe healing is possible and are willing to do the hard work and heart work to bring that vision to life.

Our team works as a support system to police agencies and police-community partnerships. We are guided by best practices from implementation science, community psychology, and public health and use our framework to help partners translate evidence-based practices into real-world change.
